Lowake is an unincorporated community in northwestern Concho County, Texas. It is along the Concho River, north of the city of Paint Rock. The county seat of Concho County is located in nearby Paint Rock. Lowake is located along FM 381 north of Paint Rock. This area is home to a number of small businesses and ranches.

In 1940, Lowake had a school that taught grades one through eleven. However, it was eventually consolidated with Paint Rock’s school district. Today, the school building is used as the Lowake Community Center. As of 1961, the population of Lowake was around 120. The town had a post office, five businesses, and a community hall.
The Lowake Steak House has been in operation for 60 years in Lowake. The steakhouse serves Texas-sized KC steaks and onion rings. Lowake is also known for its beer served in mugs. However, the restaurant will be moving to Rowena. The owner of the Lowake Steak House purchased the former Turnrow Bar and Grill and plans to keep the name.

Lowake was founded in 1909, on land owned by local farmers. In the 1950s, the town’s school merged with Paint Rock. In the 1960s, Lowake became known for its steakhouse. However, in 2017, the restaurant moved to Rowena. Besides the steakhouse, the town also had a Lowake Inn. This place was popular for locals. The town also had an airstrip, which made it possible to fly small airplanes in and out of the town.
